Pep Rally Benefits North Tech Instructor Battling Cancer

Battle of the Classes - Pep Rally
Over 400 students, staff, and administrators gathered in the North Tech Golden Eagle's gymnasium for a "Battle of the Classes" Pep Rally Wednesday afternoon hosted by TREND.  Ms. Pierson and Ms. Warden, TREND co-sponsors organized the event and Mr. Huston offered his services running the pep rally. This year, the school coupled the winter pep rally with a fundraiser for Lorrain McNeil, an instructor from NT that is battling bone cancer, rising over $800 that will be donated to assist with her financial burdens.

The mood was high-energy as participants and fans poured into the gym to acknowledge the North Tech Golden Eagle athletic teams and student athletes. All in attendance were treated to some great entertainment throughout the afternoon.

The event kicked-off with the 2012 Golden Eagles Cheerleaders, led by Captain Kristina Scott, performing several enthusiastic cheers and some impressive toe touches.

Next in the lineup was the Precision NT Steppers who stomped their way onto the court giving the crowd a synchronized show of foot pounds, hand claps and shouts. Led by Captain John Roberts, the steppers pleased the crowd with several difficult choreographed routines which they hope to soon be performing at the NT Golden Eagles half time shows.

The Golden Eagles girls and boys basketball teams then elated the crowd as they scrimmaged in a friendly six minute basketball match. The boys graciously initiated the game by permitting the girls a chance to win the initial tip off. This quickly backfired on them as the Lady Golden Eagles scored the first four points of the bout. The ladies played good defense but could not compete against the boys slam dunks. The boys beat the ladies with a final score of 8 to 4.

The highlighted event, The "Battle of the Classes" volleyball match, was instigated by the sophomore class of 2014 "showing their spunk," as Mr. Huston put it, making their voice heard with organized chants and signs. "Dub 12", the senior class, chimed in to challenge the underclassman but it was "Fourteen" that won the battle between the fans in the stands. However, it was an opposite outcome on the volleyball court as the sophomores fell to the juniors 7 to 15. The junior class of 2013 advanced to the next round where they were unable to hold their winner status as the seniors pounded out a 13 to 8 victory. The senior class victory was short lived though, as they were dominated by the "Geriatric Staff", a title given to the staff team by North Tech principal Mr. Powers who also announced a play-by-play account of the games. This year's staff team was led by the enthusiastic Social Studies duo of Ryan Weber and Greg Sadler. The senior class proved to be no match for this bunch of "old school" athletes consisting of instructors, counselors, coaches, and principals as they fell to their elders with a final score of 15 to 8. Better luck to next year's challengers.
