North Technical High School Health Sciences senior Danielle Crow is a familiar figure on the tech campus, and for good reason. For the past three years Danielle has been spearheading fundraising events that help kids with cancer at the Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. SSM Cardinal Glennon cares for children of all ages from Missouri, Illinois and around the world, providing free statewide service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Danielle’s first event of the fundraising year will begin this month with a “Casting for Cancer” Trivia & Silent Auction Night. This will take place at the Florissant JFK Community Center on April 17 at 6:30 pm. The Trivia & Silent Auction night will include a 50/50 drawing, mulligans, raffles, and baskets for all ages. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for $20 each. Last year’s Trivia & Silent Auction was attended by over a hundred people including friends, family, the community, and a number of North Technical staff members who made up two of the twelve teams which battled for trivia knowledge supremacy. The 2009 event raised approximately $5,000 to help kids with cancer at the Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center, and Danielle hopes this year’s event can do even better. Besides the Trivia & Silent Auction, Danielle also organizes a fishing tournament fundraiser at the Lake of the Ozarks during the summer. This year's tournament will be held on May 15.
Danielle’s inspiration to help children with cancer came from her experience with a 3 year old cancer patient she met at Cardinal Glennon during a hospital stay nearly three years ago. After her experience, Danielle was determined to find ways in which she can help both young cancer patients and their families financially. The work of this remarkable young teen has not gone unnoticed. She has appeared in the newspapers and on television, promoting this cause she so passionately believes in.
