North Tech is pleased to salute all of our seniors who have worked so hard to reach their destined goal of graduation.  In particular, there are some students who have made achievements not shared by many others.  These students have not only been exemplary students academically, but they have set the goal of attending college.  Additionally, they have been admitted to the college of their choice and have been offered scholarships to do so.  The total scholarships they have been offered are from varying colleges and is summed over four years.  The amounts are current and do not include scholarships from private sources; but only include those offered from the colleges/universities.  This listing of scholarship recipients will be updated as more students receive awards. Please contact Ms. Davina Reid upon receiving a new scholarship offer. Congratulations to all our scholarship recipients!

What words of advice would you give underclassmen who are interested in going to college and/or getting a scholarship offer?
Underclassmen should try your best to stay positive on what you’re trying to achieve.  Never give up or underestimate yourself.  Determination is the key to your success.

How were you able to obtain the scholarships you have been offered?
The scholarship I obtained was an automatic scholarship and I received it by making good enough grades to have the required GPA.
What words of advice would you give underclassmen who are interested in going to college and/or getting a scholarship offer?
I just want to let them know to be on their best behavior starting the first year of high school because in the end, it will affect them.  Also, take scholarships seriously and apply for as many as possible because college is very expensive.

Maintain your grades.  Make sure to prepare for the ACT as soon as possible.  This will increase your chances to get into college and get scholarships.  Having a good GPA and class rank plays a huge part in college decisions.

What words of advice would you give underclassmen who are interested in going to college and/or getting a scholarship offer?
Don’t take your free education for granted.  You are being given the opportunity to make money just by working hard and staying involved in a few school activities.  When I asked my uncle if I could get a job, he told me that school was my job.  I worked hard and did every club and activity that I could do in my free time and it was all worth it.  That letter offering me money just to learn proves that it’s worth it.

How were you able to obtain the scholarships you have been offered?
I’ve attained a 3.8 or above GPA accumulative and have involvement in extracurricular school activities and community service.  The ACT score is also acknowledged in scholarship reviews.
What words of advice would you give underclassmen who are interested in going to college and/or getting a scholarship offer?
I would tell underclassmen to work hard during their years and try to keep your discipline record clean.  Get involved in as much as you can.  Plan ahead for scholarships and ask seniors for scholarships they’ve applied for their senior year.  Practice for the ACT.  It’s an important factor for scholarship reviewers.  Lastly, save your money because senior year is expensive and college is also!!!

How were you able to obtain the scholarships you have been offered?
I was able to obtain the scholarships that were offered to me because I always work hard and earned the best grades.  Although ACT score is important as well, grades can often get you scholarships if they are better than average.
What words of advice would you give underclassmen who are interested in going to college and/or getting a scholarship offer?
To anyone interested in college or scholarships, I would advise them to work hard, practice on learning new study habits, and work just as hard as you would any other year – during your senior year.  Also, apply for colleges early during your senior year, to compete for scholarships.
